Since their origination, ellipticals have been considered to be one of the most safe, as well as efficient, exercise machines on the market. With overwhelming enthusiasm by consumers, elliptical makers have found themselves with constant demand for their product. Because of this, elliptical machines are now taken very seriously in the exercise world, and are considered one of the highest quality products in the machine industry.

That said, ellipticals are still only representing a small portion of the home exercise machine industry. Even though they have been widely accepted in health clubs and gyms, they are not considered as popular in homes. This is most likely because they are considered to be less portable than other (more expensive) home gym equipment.

The deals are out there on elliptical machines, you just need to know where to look. If you really want the best home cardio workout each and every day, then you need to know how to find an elliptical that fits your budget. Here are a few ideas to help you in your search.

Retail outlets are often able to cut you a great deal. Whether it is because of a discount model that they have overstocked, or because they have elliptical machines that have been used by customers as display items, it is possible to get that special deal nobody else thinks to ask for. Often times you can get 30% off of a quality product.

Another quality place to look for ellipticals is at sport stores that carry used products or scratch and dent stores. It is always a good idea to do a little bit of research before even showing up at a second hand store. Give different companies like these a call and ask them what they have available, the model type, and the quality of the product.

Staying ahead of the competition is crucial for the success of a fitness center. They do this mainly by updating their equipment on a consistent basis. This leaves a great opportunity for consumers looking for a discount product to call and ask if and when they are upgrading, and roughly how much their old equipment would cost.

Ellipticals are available right around the corner. Just use these tips to find the perfect one that fits your budget!

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighting has just about finished boxing. With MMA groups like Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Pride and WEC the level of skill and excitement has risen way above anything boxing can produce.

Boxing was once upon a time, a multi-million dollar business with the best boxers in the world providing excitement ring. People all over the world would sit around there TV watching the fight of the year. Then a decade or so later we had heavy weights like Iron Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield. They were big exciting boxers that pounded each other. They usually provided good action and knockouts. After these boxers retired or faded out we lost boxers with size and moved to boxers with skill like Oscar De La Hoya, Floyd Mayweather etc. This era of boxing was great but it always ended in a decision. It started to take the fun out of watching boxing and people were getting tired of paying good money for a non entertaining fight and no ending with a KO.

Then in 90s along comes this Ultimate Fighting Championship tournament where eight men are pitted against each other in a caged octagon ring, with a winner at the end of the night winning the tournament. There were only two rules, no eye gouging and no biting. You could do anything else to win. To get the win you either knocked your opponent out or submitted him. There were many different styles of fighting, anywhere from Kung Fu, to Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, to Muay Thai and Bar Room Brawling. Thats why its so entertaining because anybody who had fighting experience had a chance. When it first started there were a lot of mismatched though! At the end of the day though, this was great entertainment to audiences. People started paying to watch these fights and with the media putting a negative spin on it, UFC blew up. In 2001 the UFC was sold to new owners and Dana White was named president.

Dana White is responsible for making UFC and other MMA events so popular today. He changed the fighting rules, so it would be less barbaric and also so that there were two fighters competing for the win, instead of a tournament style fight. Also there would be 6-7 fights on a pay-per-view event. So that means on a pay-per-view event you have the chance to see 6-7 people get knocked out or submitted. Unlike boxing where you watch 12 rounds of boxing to get a bad decision.

Dana White decided to increase the popularity of UFC even more by introducing The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) reality show in which the winner gets a contract to fight in the UFC and a shot at stardom. This show has a firm grip on guys in the age range of 18-34. It has been recorded that, in this age range, the shows ratings have surpassed NBA and MLB playoffs. As for the pay-per-view money, in 2006 the UFC made $223M, HBO made $177M and WWE made $200M. Dana Whites definitely doing something right. Fighters are getting more popular than ever as their fan base increases. With popular fighters like Chuck Liddell, Tito Ortiz and Lyota Machida

So why is UFC more popular than Boxing? Its simple. The UFC offer fast paced action which usually ends in a submission or Knockout. Instead of watching 12 long rounds of Boxing just to end in a decision. One of the great things in MMA is you just never know whos going to win. All it takes is someone to get a lucky shot in and his opponent drops like a sack of potatoes. Boxing hasnt produced that in a long time. Thats not to say UFC doesnt have its faults.

At the end of the day, UFC is offering viewers what they want. I think boxing will be around for a few more years but MMA will beat boxing out of business sooner rather than later.

Breathing: it’s something basic, something that everyone does without even thinking about it, but very few people realize that improving their breathing technique can also improve their performance in sports and other regular activities. Training the lungs is at least as important as training any other part of the body. One’s health, too, can be greatly improved by proper lung training, and being in poor respiratory health many drawbacks.

If you suffer from breathing or other lung and respiratory problems, you should consult with your physician or a respiratory therapist. They will be able to offer suggestions on how you can improve and increase your lung capacity and offer a program that is best for you and your needs.

When you are breathing correctly, your cells and tissues are oxygenated and receiving the energy they require for their optimal performance needs. This will improve your concentration, reduce stress, increase your metabolism, and strengthen your immune system when you breathe properly, improving your overall health and performance. Most importantly, when you exhale your body rids itself of the majority - around seventy percent - of the toxins your body produces.

Persons in poor respiratory health, on the other hand, may find themselves gasping or panting, and are frequently short of breath. There are many health problems that can result from this lack of proper oxygenation. Inadequate breathing may cause dizziness, inability to focus, and increased stress levels. Among other side effects, those who suffer from difficulties in breathing may experience sore muscles, digestive problems, lowered lung capacity, and feelings of tightness. Their bodies, as explained above, are not able to properly dispose of toxins.

Every athlete is aware of the consequences of overexerting which can result in pushing the lungs too far. The results can be an out of breath feeling, fatigue and the need to gasp for air. Our breathing is controlled by 12 sets of respiratory muscles. These muscles react as any other muscles in our bodies do with exertion. Even our regular breathing is controlled by these muscles. These 12 muscles need to be exercised regularly just as all of our other muscles do to keep them healthy and to keep their performance at optimum levels.

Proper exercise of the respiratory muscles can be vital to improving physical performance in sports and daily activities, as well as overall health and well-being. Now, new technologies provide devices that can help you to strengthen these muscles and improve your breathing. In just a few uses per day, these devices can fully exercise the entire respiratory system, improving both inhalation and exhalation.

Senior citizens who would like to be able to climb their stairs better or amateur and professional athletes alike would benefit from improved respiratory function just as most of us would. It would be wise to consult your physician or a respiratory therapist to help you to understand what steps you can take to enjoy better breathing and thus benefit your overall health so that you can enjoy your daily activities to the fullest.

The growing awareness of safe driving and state safety laws have alerted the general public and parents to the importance of using car seats for their small children whenever and wherever they are driving. Most states require the use of car seats for children under the age of 4 and weighing less than 40 pounds. However, these safety rules aimed at protecting children may cause serious neck and spinal injuries and can even be deadly if the child car seats are used incorrectly.

The American Chiropractic Association, its Council on Occupational Health and ACA member Dr. Michael Freeman, trauma epidemiologist and clinical assistant professor of public health and preventive medicine at the Oregon Health Sciences University School of Medicine, have developed the following general guidelines and safety tips to ensure proper car seat safety.

Make sure the child safety seat is appropriate for the age and size of the child. A newborn infant requires a different seat than a 3-year-old toddler. Car seats for infants should always be rear facing as the forces and impact of a crash will be spread more evenly along the back and shoulders, providing more protection for the neck. Car seats should always be placed in the back seat of the car-ideally in the center. This is especially important in cars equipped with air bags. If an air bag becomes deployed, the force could seriously injure or kill a child or infant placed in the front seat. Make sure the car seat is properly secured to the seat of the vehicle and is placed at a 45-degree angle to support the head of the infant or child. The lap harness should be fastened low, as close to the hips as possible; the harness should never be fastened around the waist. Make certain the shoulder harness is fastened securely and the straps lay flat against the body. Twisted straps can cause additional injury that might prevent the seat from working properly. Use a retention clip (if provided by the manufacturer) when securing a child safety seat with the shoulder harness. The retention or shoulder harness clip is an added safety feature and must be fastened close to the armpit of the infant or child. Borrowing or purchasing a used car seat can be dangerous. There is the possibility of unknown or undetected damage. Car seats that have been in a serious accident should never be used again. Be sure the seat meets federal motor vehicle safety seat standards. Consult the owner’s manual or contact the manufacturer for that information. All car seats should have an owner’s manual and instruction booklet. Be sure the clip between the legs of the child is fastened snugly. While car accidents can be dangerous for all passengers, small children are especially at risk, according to Dr. Scott Bautch, past president of ACA’s Council on Occupational Health. “The weight of the head of a child makes the cervical spine much more vulnerable to injury,” Dr. Bautch explained. “The infant has little control in the muscles of the neck, and the head can bounce from side to side and fall forward, which can cause serious spine and neck injuries. Children have more flexible upper bodies and shoulders. Make sure the harness comes up, way up, over the shoulders.”

Underscoring the importance of proper car seat use, a recent article in Nation’s Health reported the findings of a study conducted in Kentucky by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The study found a 37 percent drop in infant fatalities since the 1982 enactment of the state law mandating the use of child car seats. “To continue this decline, prevention efforts now must focus on the proper use of the seats to maximize their life-saving potential,” researchers said.

The key when traveling with small children is to be aware of and follow these rules and tips to ensure proper car seat safety. And remember everyone: Buckle up!

If you or one of your children have been involved in a serious automobile accident and have neck and back discomfort, you should consider a visit to a chiropractor.

The members of the army are in super fit condition, and that does not happen by accident. With the extremely rigorous rountines which soldiers have every day, peak physical fitness is a requirement, not an option. Even though a few of the army’s members might not have to be quite as fit, such as staff doctors, it is still true that almost every member of the army is is extremely good physical condition. Periodic evaluations are performed on soldiers so that it can be verified that they continue to be in good shape to do their job.

The army physical fitness test is typically supervised by army officers, who will evaluate the fitness levels of the soldiers. Individual and group fitness are considered equally important.

Expectations for these tests are set quite high, and the reason is clear. Soldiers must be in peak condition so that they can perform essential duties, both individually and as part of a unit. One unfit member of the team could cause a serious breakdown in the team’s ability to function well and could cause grave consequences.

The General Public May Also Use the Army Fitness Test

While the army’s physical fitness test were created to evaluate the fitness levels of army members who have to maintain these levels as a job requirement, the test is actually available for the general public as well. Many people might choose to use the army’s tests to make sure they are in excellent physical condition.

Even though ordinary people don’t really need to meet the same fitness goals as army members do, these fitness standards are a wonderful way to maintain top fitness levels for anybody. It is very special to be able to say you can meet the high standards of army fitness.

The army physical fitness test has at least three sections. Soldiers must demonstrate that they can do a number of sit-ups, pushups and a two mile run. Soldiers must earn a set number of points in order to pass the test. Ordinary people might not meet the standards at first, but they might use the standards as their goals.

The army fitness test is divided into requirements based upon age group. Allowances are made for age, with younger people having higher requirements. However, even the older soldiers must still meet some very exacting standards.
